Things I Learned This Week
- In statistics, a p-value of 0.05 (or 5%) is the standard threshold for determining if a result is “statistically significant (顯著)”. It indicates a 5% probability that your results occurred by random chance alone, meaning you can be 95% confident the effect or relationship you observed is real.
- Tricking (極限武術) is a movement art that blends martial arts kicks (武術), gymnastics flips (體操), and breakdancing spins (舞蹈) into creative, freestyle combinations.
- A stopgap (權宜之計 ≈ workaround) is a temporary solution, measure, or substitute used to fill a need or fix a problem until a permanent or better alternative can be found. It is meant to be a short-term fix to keep things operational in the meantime.
- Kosher foods (猶太潔食,指符合猶太教飲食戒律的食物) are foods that conform to the Jewish dietary regulations of kashrut, which are derived from the Torah. These laws specify which animals are permitted (such as cows, sheep, and certain fish with fins and scales), how they must be slaughtered, and prohibit the consumption of certain foods like pork and shellfish. Additionally, kosher rules require the separation of meat and dairy products, both in preparation and consumption. Many packaged kosher foods are certified by a rabbinic authority, indicated by a symbol on the packaging.
- ”Oohs and aahs“ describes the exclamations of wonder, pleasure, or surprise people make when witnessing something spectacular, like fireworks or a magic trick.
